Dodgers’ Seager continues to victimize Cubs
The Dodgers’ Corey Seager is one of the hottest players in the majors right now. But does a wily veteran hold the key to slowing down the 22-year-old phenom?
Jon Lester and the Cubs tussle with the National League West leaders this afternoon, with a 4:10 p.m. ET first pitch on the West Coast. Online sports book BetDSI gives the visitors odds of -170 to prevail. Conversely, Los Angeles represents a +150 underdog. The over/under run total sits at eight.
Last night, Seager took Jason Hammel deep in the Dodgers’ 3-2 victory. The stud shortstop’s batting .452 with four homers, six doubles and 10 RBIs since Aug. 8. If he doesn’t win the NL ROY award in a landslide, it would be a borderline travesty.
Yet Lester (14-4, 2.81 ERA) couldn’t care less about Seager’s hardware to come. The lefty enters the series finale riding a streak of five straight quality starts. In four career outings against Los Angeles, Lester owns a 2-2 record with a 1.02 WHIP.

For the host squad, manager Dave Roberts turns to Brock Stewart (0-2, 11.25) for just the third time. The righty may have achieved great success at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he’s in no way prepared for a lineup that feasts on MLB neophytes. Expect the Cubbies to polish off their extended road trip with a rout.
