White Sox drop opener
Chicago dropped the series opener on Thursday night in an 8-7 loss to the Angels. The White Sox are 54-66 on the season, 24-35 on the road and 62-54 with the under. Chicago has Lucas Giolito on the mound today. He is 12-6 on the season with a 3.42 ERA.
The White Sox were behind all game and then managed a four-run rally in the ninth before coming up just short of the comeback. Jose Abreu continued his strong year by knocking out a pair of home runs and finished with three RBI to give him 89 on the year. Reynaldo Lopez took the loss for Chicago. He is 7-10 on the year after allowing five runs in 5.1 innings of work.
Angels trying to heat up
Los Angeles took the series opener on Thursday to win its second straight and fourth in the last six games. Los Angeles is 60-63 overall, 31-30 at home and 60-56 with the over. The Angels have Patrick Sandoval on the mound today. He is 0-0 on the year with a 5.59 ERA.
Andrew Heaney threw seven innings and allowed just three runs to get the win last night and move to 2-3 on the year. The Los Angeles bullpen then made things interesting, but Hansel Robles got his 17th save. At the plate, Mike Trout had four hits and four runs, connecting on his 40th home run of the year in the process. Justin Upton added a home run and four RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The White Sox have won six of their last seven games against a left-handed starter and five of their last six games following a loss.
Los Angeles
The Angels are just 2-9 in their last 11 against AL Central opponents and 4-9 in their last 13 home games.
Prediction:
Sandoval has thrown in just two games this year and has given up six runs over 9.2 innings. He has walked six as well. Giolito has been pretty strong all year despite a lack of run support. He has been quite exceptional on the road, posting a 7-2 record with a 2.90 ERA. I think Giolito will get some run support today as Sandoval is still finding his footing. Los Angeles just isn’t a consistent team, so I don’t expect the Angels to get on a hot streak right now.
MLB Prediction: Chicago White Sox -105
