Orioles blown out in opener
Baltimore had won four of its last six entering Monday night, but the Orioles were soundly beaten by the Padres, 8-1. Baltimore is 35-71 overall, 20-35 on the road and 52-47 with the over. The Orioles have Tom Eshelman getting the start today. He is 0-2 on the season with a 5.79 ERA.
The Orioles had seven hits in Monday’s loss, but put up just one run, as they stranded a total of 12 runners. Anthony Santander drove in the lone run for Baltimore in the loss while Jonathan Villar had two hits and scored the only run. David Hess continued his rough 2019, as he fell to 1-10 on the mound by allowing five runs over 4.2 innings of work.
Padres bounce back
San Diego had lost seven of its last 10 games prior to Monday, but bounced back nicely with a 7-run victory over Baltimore. The Padres are now 50-56 on the season, 25-29 at home and 50-48 with the under. San Diego has Dinelson Lamet getting the start today. He is 0-2 on the year with a 5.00 ERA.
Chris Paddack got his seventh win of the year on the mound for San Diego on Monday. He gave up one run over 5.1 innings and struck out five. The Padres knocked out five home runs in the victory, with Eric Hosmer putting two out. He finished the game with five RBI. Manny Machado added three hits and two runs while Franmil Reyes hit his 27th home run of the year.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are 11-31 in their last 42 interleague games and 41-110 in their last 151 road games.
San Diego
The Padres have won four straight interleague home games and four of their last five AL East games.
Prediction:
Neither team should have much faith in their starter today. Lamet has thrown just 18 innings this year and given up 10 earned runs. Eshelman has thrown 18.2 innings and allowed 12 earned runs. While he did pitch well against the Angels this past weekend, I don’t trust him to do that again today. The Padres are at home and have the better hitting and slightly better bullpen. The bullpen will be key today.
MLB Prediction: San Diego Padres -235
