Mariners vs. Angels Prediction
The Los Angeles Angels threw a combined no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners in an emotional setting last night as they remembered pitcher Tyler Skaggs in a storybook first home game since his death. Can Los Angeles win again tonight on what would have been Skaggs’ 28th birthday?

Mariners unable to record a hit
Seattle was no-hit Friday night in a 13-0 defeat at Los Angeles in its first game after the All-Star Break. Mike Leake was shelled in the loss as he surrendered seven runs (four earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk in two-thirds of an inning. Omar Narvaez was 0-for-2 with a walk to lead the weak offensive effort. The Mariners have not yet decided on their starting pitcher for tonight’s contest.
Angels honor Skaggs with no-hitter
Every Los Angeles Angels player wore the jersey of Skaggs last night and his mother threw out the first pitch, a perfect strike. It set the scene for a combined no-hitter from Taylor Cole and Felix Pena in what ended as a 13-0 victory, with each Skaggs jersey plus a picture of him placed on the pitching mound after the game. Cole threw the first two innings, striking out two batters. Pena threw the final seven frames as he struck out six and walked one. Mike Trout led the Angels offense as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, a walk, two runs, three runs scored and six RBIs. Justin Upton was 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Andrelton Simmons went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Matt Harvey gets the start tonight for LA as he comes off the injured list with a 2-4 record, 7.50 ERA and 1.52 WHIP with 35 strikeouts over 48 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners are 21-45 in their last 66 games overall. Seattle is 1-10 in its last 11 Saturday games.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 41-19 in their last 60 games versus a team with a losing record. Los Angeles is 4-9 in its last 13 home meetings versus the Mariners.
Prediction:
While Harvey has been a major disappointment this season for the Angels, perhaps the time on the IL did him some good. You would think the Angels might have a letdown after such an emotion-filled night, but this would have been Skaggs’ birthday and the Mariners are dreadful. No matter who the Seattle starting pitcher is tonight, I like LA’s chances to get another home win.
