Brewers’ Guerra works six strong innings vs. Braves
Junior Guerra tossed six innings of one-run ball Sunday in a win over the Braves. Guerra issued three walks and surrendered seven hits, but he operated well in situations that required damage control as the Brewers rolled to a four-game series win against Atlanta. Guerra holds an exceptional 2.79 ERA with 92 strikeouts in 93 2/3 innings (17 starts) this season with Milwaukee. He’ll try to keep it all working in his next start at Pittsburgh.
Pirates’ Kingham strong over six innings vs. Phillies
Nick Kingham allowed just one run over six innings in a victory over the Phillies on Sunday. He also drove in two runs to help his cause. It was a much better effort for Kingham, whose last start saw him go just three innings in the 17-1 thrashing by the Dodgers on Monday. He allowed just four hits, and he fanned five Philadelphia hitters while walking just one. When Kingham commands his stuff, he shows an arsenal that suggests he can be a competent backend starter. He’ll be back on the mound on Friday facing the Brewers.
MLB Betting Trends
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 3-7 in their last 10 games versus the Pirates at PNC Park and 2-5 in their last seven meetings with the Bucs.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates have dropped five of Kingham’s last six starts.
Prediction:
I liked the under last night and the Brewers spoiled that play by scoring two runs in the ninth inning to barely push the combine score over. I’m going the other way tonight. The over is 4-1 in the Brewers’ last five games and is 6-1-1 in their last eight road games. The over is also 4-1-1 in Kerwin Danley’s last six games behind home plate and Kingham has not pitched well in his last five games, surrendering six home runs in just 26 innings of work. He owns a 4.85 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over that time span.
The Pick: Brewers/Pirates over 8
