Frazier favored to win 2015 Home Run Derby
CINCINNATI, OH (The Spread) – Reds third baseman Todd Frazier has opened as the favorite to win the 2015 Home Run Derby.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Frazier is 7/2 to win this year’s Home Run Derby, while Cubs’ rising star Kris Bryant is 5/1 and Rangers’ slugger Prince Fielder is 11/2. Albert Pujols is also 6/1, while Anthony Rizzo is 13/2 and Joc Pederson, Josh Donaldson and Manny Machado are all 7/1, respectively.
Giancarlo Stanton currently leads the league in home runs with 27 but he’s out after breaking his left hand. Pujols leads the American League in dingers with 26, while Frazier has 25 home runs to date. Pederson has 20, Rizzo has 16 and Bryant has 12. In the AL, Donaldson has 21, Machado has 19 and Fielder has 13.
There are new changes to the Home Run Derby format this year, including each player receiving five minutes per round, with the clock starting when the first pitch is delivered. The only way the clock is stopped is if a player hits a home run in the final minute of their round. Players will also receive an addition minute of swings if they hit two home runs projected to land 420 feet during a single turn, as well as 30 additional seconds if they hit a dinger of at least 475 feet.
