Angels’ Skaggs strikes out eight Royals in loss
Tyler Skaggs pitched seven innings of one-run ball Monday in a loss to the Royals. Skaggs, who had his start pushed back four days because of a minor hamstring problem, pitched exactly seven innings with exactly eight strikeouts for the third straight outing. A soft schedule out late has helped, but his ERA is all of the way down to 2.69 at the moment. He gets another break this week, as he’ll miss the Red Sox and face the Orioles this weekend.
Orioles’ Cashner tosses four scoreless innings vs. Nationals
Andrew Cashner tossed four scoreless innings against the Nationals before a long rain delay on Wednesday. He didn’t come back out after the rain delay and it likely cost him a win as the Orioles went on to shut out the Nationals. He surrendered three hits without issuing a walk and striking out two in the brief outing. Cashner’s record holds at 2-8 with a 4.72 ERA. His 1.64 WHIP is the worst in the majors among qualified starters.
