Eovaldi, Yankees target sweep of host Twins
While their arch-rivals in Boston work through an uncommon funk, the Yankees continue to maneuver their way back into the AL East picture.
New York aims for a four-game sweep of Minnesota this afternoon, with a 2:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Target Field. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv like the visiting club as a 1.5-run favorite, while the Twins are considered +135 underdogs. The over/under run figure sits at 9.5.
Yesterday’s 7-6 triumph epitomized the Yanks’ surge of late. Despite falling into a 4-0 hole early, Joe Girardi’s crew chipped away with homers from Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran. New York then plated four runs in the ninth off to deal Minnesota its fifth straight defeat.
Ervin Santana endeavors to halt that skid in several hours, but previous meetings with the Bronx Bombers have produced largely disastrous results. The righty is 5-9 with a 6.22 ERA in 17 career turns against the Yanks, having failed to topple them since 2008. He must be especially careful vs. Beltran, who boasts 22 hits in his past 57 at-bats.

New York hurler Nathan Eovaldi, of course, has his own issues to overcome. He totes a 9.82 ERA since his most recent victory on May 29. Over his last three starts, the Houston native has permitted 16 runs and 26 base knocks.
Nonetheless, we’ll go against the grain and predict a lower-than-expected final score. Various regulars will sit in the finale of this set, leaving younger role players to fill the void. Go with the Yankees to prevail, though with less blunt force than they’ve exhibited recently.
