Tigers give up five in ninth, fall to Marlins
A five-run ninth inning Thursday by Miami sent Detroit to a ninth straight loss as its record fell to 18-29 overall and 9-17 at home. Niko Goodrum helped pace the Tigers as he finished 2-for-4 with two runs. Nick Castellanos went 3-for-4 with a double. Miguel Cabrera was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Shane Greene suffered the loss in relief as has surrendered five unearned runs on two hits with no strikeouts and two walks over one inning of work. Gregory Soto starts tonight for Detroit as he comes in with an 0-2 record, 13.50 ERA and 2.67 WHIP with four strikeouts over six innings.

New York finished off a sweep Thursday afternoon at home over Washington as it earned a 6-4 victory. Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, a three-run home run by Carlos Gomez put the Mets back on top. Todd Frazier ended the contest 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Robert Gsellman picked up the win in relief as he allowed three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk over one inning. MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 22-47 in their last 69 road games. Detroit is 0-5 in its last five series openers.
New York
The Mets are 7-0 in their last seven home games. New York is 9-3 in the last 12 Syndergaard home starts.
Prediction:
While the Mets are capable of screwing any game up, it’s hard not to love them here with Syndergaard on the mound as he has been very sharp in three of his last four starts. He’ll be facing a reeling Tigers squad that couldn’t manage a single win on their homestand and now have to deal with a top-notch opposing pitcher. Don’t overthink this one.
