The pitching matchup for today has JC Ramirez (3-3, 4.20) on the mound for the Angels to face Derek Holland (3-3, 2.43) of the White Sox. Holland is coming off arguably his worst outing of the season, allowing seven runs (three earned) and three home runs in 5 innings against the Twins last week. He has 16 walks and 33 strikeouts this season and a WHIP of 1.16. Ramirez is coming off a seven-inning outing last week against the Tigers, but he gave up five earned runs and eight hits in the performance. He now has 37 strikeouts in 40.2 innings with a WHIP of 1.25.
The Angels took the first game of the series on Monday night, 5-3 at home. The two hit the under in the game. They have pushed or hit the under in eight straight meetings. Los Angeles is now 20-21 overall, 13-8 at home and 23-15 with the under. Chicago is 17-19 overall, 8-8 at home and 18-15 with the under.
Los Angeles got seven innings from Jesse Chavez on Monday night. He allowed five hits and three runs, but did enough to keep the Angels out front. Mike Trout hit his 12th home run of the season, his fourth in as many games. Kole Calhoun also homered, driving in three runs. Chicago was held to just five hits in the game, with Jose Abreu leading the way with a two-run home run.
These two just haven’t been able to hit an over. They are 12-3-1 with the under in their last 16 meetings. They also are 3-0-1 with the under in their last four meetings in Los Angeles as well. The total is awfully low tonight, especially with a pitcher with an ERA over 4.00. However, I still think the two will hit the under. Holland should be able to be competitive on the mound and I think the White Sox will continue to struggle at the plate away from home. They have been held to just 10 runs in their last four road games.
