Will Marlins’ Stanton keep smashing Brewers?
It seems as if Milwaukee just woke up a sleeping giant, and now the rest of the National League is doomed to pay the price.
Miami’s Giancarlo Stanton aims to continue his recent tear in today’s series finale at Miller Park, with a 2:10 p.m. ET first pitch in the Badger State. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI like the visiting squad as a 1.5-run in this spot. The over/under run total sits at nine.
Baseball’s richest man batted .193 over his first 15 games. It was merely a matter of time, though, until Stanton’s homer-hungry instincts took over. He’s gone 9 for 22 while launching dingers in five of the past six contests.
Not surprisingly, the power surge has coincided with an astounding about-face by the Marlins (12-11) as a whole. Don Mattingly’s club stands on the precipice of winning eight in a row for the first time in eight years. Versatile infielder Martin Prado has been instrumental to the cause, too, hitting .519 (14 for 27) since April 26.

Veteran righty Tom Koehler (2-2, 4.50 ERA) draws this afternoon’s mound assignment for the Fish. He faces a Milwaukee lineup that finally showed some semblance of life in last night’s 7-5 defeat. Catcher Jonathan Lucroy registered two of the Brewers’ seven base knocks and boasts a .333 average over his last 10.
The Brew Crew’s No. 1 bugaboo, however, pertains to the rotation. With an MLB-worst 6.32 ERA, the starting five simply torpedoes the team’s chances before the action even begins. Wily Peralta (1-3, 7.40) won’t inspire much confidence in a few hours, either. Bet on the Marlins to keep swimming up the NL East standings.
