Pittsburgh Pirates Fantasy Spin
Josh Bell went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and a walk to lead the Pirates to a 4-3 win over the Nationals on Sunday. Bell plated a pair of runs with an RBI double in the first and third innings, respectively, off Nationals ace Max Scherzer. He also led off the ninth inning with a walk and came around to score the eventual game-winning run on a two-out double by outfielder Jason Martin. The 26-year-old slugger ranks among the league-leaders (92nd percentile) with a 94 mph average exit velocity on his 40 batted balls this season. He’s blossoming into an elite fantasy first baseman, slashing .314/.390/.627 with nine runs scored, three home runs and 12 RBI in 59 plate appearances this season.
Detroit Tigers Fantasy Spin
Gordon Beckham went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in the Tigers’ loss to the Twins on Sunday. Beckham swatted a two-run tater off Twins’ starter Jose Berrios in the second inning. He’s gone deep twice in 20 plate appearances, but his cringe-worthy .176/.300/.588 triple-slash line leaves much to be desired. The 32-year-old infielder can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates have beaten the Tigers four straight times at Comerica Park.
Detroit
The Tigers are just 1-6 in their last seven games versus the Pirates overall.
Prediction:
Both Joe Musgrove and Matthew Boyd are capable of keeping the scoring in check tonight. Boyd has held both right and left-handed hitters in check since the start of last season while Musgrove has been tough on right-handed hitters. The under is 5-2 in Boyd’s last seven home starts and is 7-3 in the Pirates’ last 10 interleague games.
The Pick: Pirates/Tigers UNDER 7.5
