New York Yankees Fantasy Spin
Luke Voit hit his third home run of the season in Tuesday’s loss to the Astros. Voit turned around a Gerrit Cole delivery in the first inning for his third homer of the season. He’s shown a propensity for those, but bunches of hits have been harder to come by — through Tuesday, Voit is hitting .195/.340/.415 without a multi-hit game to his credit this year. Greg Bird isn’t hitting much, either, but on a team as talented as the Yankees, Voit doesn’t have the luxury to struggle for long.
Houston Astros Fantasy Spin
Jose Altuve went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a 6-3 win over the Yankees on Tuesday. Hard-throwing Yanks youngster Jonathan Loaisiga learned a lesson about fastball placement, and Altuve caught up with a 96-mph heater up in the zone and smashed it into the Crawford Boxes for a solo shot in the third inning. He also added a sacrifice fly RBI later in the game. Altuve has now hit safely in six of his last seven games to raise his season line to .298/.346/.532 with three homers and a stolen base.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees have lost 11 of their last 12 games when they play the third game of a series.
Houston
The Astros have won 18 of their last 24 home games and are 39-18 in their last 57 games dating back to last season.
Prediction:
I’m going to take a shot on Paxton, who’s 3.78 ERA is actually worse than his 2.96 SIERA, indicating that he’s been better than what his ERA shows. He owns a 32.1% strikeout rate, which is elite, and has walked just 6.5% of the batters that he faces, which is also excellent. While he draws a difficult matchup tonight against Houston’s lineup, Paxton generates a 14.4% swinging strike rate so he should keep the Yankees in this game. If New York can grab a lead, its bullpen is one of the best in baseball. The Bombers are worth a flier as an underdog.
The Pick: New York Yankees +104
