Indians Season Odds
After a dismal, injury-marred 2008 season, the Cleveland Indians hope to bounce back in ’09 and pick up where they left when they went to the ALCS just two years ago.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the Tribe 20/1 long shots to win the 2009 World Series and have established their American League Pennant odds at 8/1.
The Indians essentially have the same team they had when they went to the ALCS in 2007, minus ace CC Sabathia of course. Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez and Mark DeRosa headline what should be a very productive offense.
The pitching staff has some question marks, but it does boast talent. Cliff Lee is the defending AL Cy Young winner and Fausto Carmona was outstanding two years ago before injuries sidetracked his 2008 campaign. Carl Pavano needs to bounce back from a rough spring.
If they stay healthy, the Indians will compete. The starting rotation and lineup is good enough to win, although the Twins and White Sox should be competitive again this year in the division. All in all, at 20/1 odds the Tribe could be a nice sleeper team to emerge this season.
