San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Matt Strahm limited the Cardinals to two runs — one earned — over five innings Sunday in a loss. Hunter Renfroe owes Strahm a milkshake for the fourth inning the outfielder had behind him, first making an error to allow runners to advance to second and third with no outs, and then for taking a bad route on a Paul DeJong fly ball that scooted past Renfroe and rolled to the wall to score both runners. Otherwise, Strahm had a nice bounce back after a terrible debut against the Diamondbacks. Hopefully you didn’t cut bait on the southpaw after one bad start, as Strahm’s talent has long been evident and he’s finally getting a chance to show it as a starter. He’ll keep looking for that first win of the year in a rematch with the D’backs on Friday.
San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin
Drew Pomeranz took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on six hits over four innings against the Rays. Pomeranz expended a lot of energy to get through his four innings, throwing 94 pitches before exiting. Five strikeouts and three walks helped that cause. Through two starts, the southpaw now holds a 4.00 ERA and 1.78 WHIP. He’s got a tough challenge on deck when the Rockies visit Oracle Park on Friday.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 4-1 in their last five games versus the Giants.
San Francisco
The Giants have won 11 of Madison Bumgarner’s last 15 home starts versus the Padres but are just 1-4 in his last five outings versus San Diego overall.
Prediction:
Eric Lauer held the Giants scoreless over six innings on Opening Day at Petco Park and there’s no reason to believe San Francisco’s bats will have better luck tonight. The Giants own one of the weaker offenses in baseball and were just shut out at home by the Rays on Sunday. Bumgarner has pitched well versus the Padres over his career, posting a 2.69 ERA in 121 career starts against San Diego at home. That said, if he doesn’t receive any run support it won’t matter how good he is on Monday night.
The Pick: San Diego Padres +105
