Cubs Season Odds
Is this finally the year of the Chicago Cubs? Or will the curse of the Billy Goat sink their World Series hopes yet again?
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have established the Cubs’ odds to win the 2009 World Series at 8/1. Oddsmakers have also made the Cubs a 3/1 favorite (along with the Mets, who are also a 3/1 favorite) to win the National League Pennant this season.
The Cubs have one of the best starting rotations in all of baseball. Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster and Rich Harden comprise an excellent top 3, while Ted Lilly and Sean Marshall round out the rest of the solid rotation.
The lineup is incredibly balanced as well, with Alfonso Soriano setting the table, Aramis Ramirez providing the power and NL Rookie of the Year Geovany Soto doing the rest. The Cubs will miss having utility man Mark DeRosa (who was traded to Cleveland in the offseason) in the lineup, but Mark Fontenot should step up and fill that role this season.
The Cubs are stacked, there’s no doubt about it. But they need to get over their postseason funk and produce. The Cardinals and Brewers might give them a challenge in the NL Central, but there’s no doubt Chicago is one of the better teams in the NL and could be playing for a World Series title come October. (If that damn Billy Goat stays away, that is.)
