(The Spread) – The Giants have given defensive end Osi Umenyiora permission to seek a trade but will any team part with the high compensation that New York is seeking?
According to the New York Daily News, the Chargers, Seahawks, Broncos, Raves and Rams are all interested in trading for Umenyiora, who is 29 and seeking a long-term contract. But the Giants are reportedly asking for a first-round pick and teams are balking at the asking price.
Of all the teams listed above, perhaps the Rams make the most sense. Umenyiora played under current St. Louis head coach Steve Spagnuolo in New York and the Rams could stand to add another pass-rusher. (Although hey, which team couldn’t?) That said, Umenyiora has reportedly said that he wants to play for the Seahawks.

One wildcard team that may come from out of nowhere is the Atlanta Falcons, whom recently signed defensive end Ray Edwards but is trying to stockpile talent for a Super Bowl run. The problem is that the Falcons already mortgaged a lot of their future in trading up for receiver Julio Jones in April’s draft, so Atlanta may choose to see if New York cuts Umenyiora before pursuing him.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog, the Giants are currently listed at 22/1 to win the 2012 Super Bowl. They’re also listed at 11/1 to win the 2012 NFC Conference.
