The 2009 NFL Draft kickoffs this Saturday, April 25 and one of the more interesting rumors surrounding draft weekend is the notion that the Seattle Seahawks will select USC quarterback Mark Sanchez with the No. 4 pick.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have set the odds of Mark Sanchez being selected with the No. 7 pick or lower at +150. Sanchez’s odds to be selected with the No. 8 pick (held by the Jacksonville Jaguars) are +500, the No. 10 pick (San Francisco 49ers) at +250 and the No. 13 pick (Washington Redskins) at +350.
The Seahawks are in an interesting dilemma at quarterback because while they’re committed to veteran Matt Hasselbeck as their starter, Hasselbeck is 33 and coming off an injury-plagued season. If Seattle takes Sanchez with the No. 4 pick, he could learn under Hasselbeck for a year or two before he’s ready to take over.
The Cleveland Browns are also rumored to be interested in Sanchez, because they’re rumored to want to trade Brady Quinn. It seems that the most likely scenario is that Sanchez will be gone in the first seven picks.
