UFC Fight Night Live takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from the
Two lightweight fights highlight the card, which features plenty of up-and-coming talent.
Ultimate Fighter Stars Collide
Wednesday’s main event features lightweights Nick Diaz and Melvin Guillard. Diaz is coming off back-to-back losses after winning his first five official fights in the octagon. Both losses were by decision, while all of Diaz’ wins have been by decision or submission. Guillard has won his last two fights and had five wins in the octagon, but his three UFC losses have all come by submission in the first round. Diaz is a submission specialist, who uses his long reach and jab to ware down opponents before working in a submission. Diaz is listed in the betting line at -240 while Guillard is at +200. Guillard has a puncher’s chance to win, as he has great power, but Diaz is a smart fighter that remains calm. Look for Diaz to outclass Guillard and win by submission.
Huerta Returns To Face Maynard
The co-headline fight on the night is between another pair of lightweights when Roger Huerta takes on Gray Maynard. Huerta hasn’t fought for the UFC since August of 2008 when he lost to Kenny Florian by decision. Florian initially decided to retire from the UFC to pursue an acting career, but now finds himself back in the cage. Maynard is unbeaten in his UFC career and has won his last four fights by unanimous decision. A win over Huerta would move Maynard up to a top contender for the lightweight title, whereas a win for Huerta would leave his career in question, but make him a top contender as well. Maynard carries a money line of -340 while Huerta is at +270. Maynard has been able to utilize his wrestling background and superior size to control his opponents, where Huerta has been a scrappy fighter that has taken the fight anywhere. Maynard should be able to get takedowns in this one and if his fighting has evolved, he will be able to control Huerta on the ground and get a decision or TKO victory.
