Mexico shocks powerful Germany
Mexico is your Group F co-leader following a 1-0 triumph as a big underdog against Germany last week. The lone goal was scored by Hirving Lazano in the 35th minute and the Mexicans used a stellar defensive effort the rest of the way to secure the win. Mexico only held 39 percent of the possession and withstood 25 shots (nine on goal) by the Germans. The offensive attack by Mexico netted 12 shots with four being on goal. Mexico recorded 15 fouls and was assessed two yellow cards.
South Korea shut out in opener
In its first Group F game, South Korea was unable to find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to the group’s co-leader in Sweden. The game remained scoreless until the 65th minute when a successful penalty kick by Andreas Granqvist decided the outcome. South Korea had 48 percent of the possession, but was unable to generate much offense with only five shots and none on goal. The match was foul-filled with South Korea committing 23 including two yellow cards. Sweden was called for 20 fouls and handed one yellow card.
Prediction:
I’d feel better with an upset pick here if South Korea generated any offense against Sweden, but I still think it finds its way to a goal here as there is some talent on the side that is better than it showed against Sweden. Mexico could be in a letdown spot here and although I don’t think it loses, a draw bet on perhaps a 1-1 final could be what happens here.
