Public Betting Information
According to oddsmakers, Poland is a +135 favorite on the moneyline. Senegal is a +250 underdog, while a draw is set at +205. The over-under is set at 2 goals.
Lewandowski gives Poland impact player
Poland forward Robert Lewandowski led European World Cup qualifying with 16 goals, giving him one more than Portugal supestar Cristiano Ronaldo. He also scored five goals in a blitzkrieg of a nine-minute period with Bayern Munich against Wolfsburg back in February. He scored 45 goals in 51 club appearances this season. Poland has finished third in the World Cup twice, but that was back in 1974 and 1982. Its last World Cup appearance came in 2006 when it was knocked out in the group stage.
Senegal hopes to surprise again
The World Cup history for Senegal is short, but it did very well in its one previous appearance in 2002 as it stunned France 1-0 in its first-ever match and eventually advanced to the quarterfinals. Midfielders Idrissa Gueye, Cheikhou Kouyate, Cheikh N’doye, Alfred N’Diaye and Badou Ndiaye plus forward Mame Biram Diouf. Senegal is coached by 2002 team captain Aliou Cisse.
Prediction:
Poland is favored, but these two teams are very evenly matched. While I don’t necessarily seeing Senegal pulling off the upset, I do see them controlling enough of the action to secure a 0-0 or a 1-1 draw. I actually like the Senegal side a bit more in this matchup, so pull the trigger on that bet if you wish but I feel a draw is the better way to go.
