Eriksen looks to star
Tottenham standout Christian Eriksen will look to make his mark on the World Cup as the 26-year-old is coming off a fantastic Premier League season. Spurs finished third in the table as Eriksen played a key role. He was the top Denmark standout during World Cup qualifying as he netted a team-best 11 goals to go with three assists. This will be the first-ever meeting between Peru and Denmark.
Guerrero cleared to play
Peru veteran 34-year-old forward Paolo Guerrero will be allowed to participate in the World Cup as his 14-month suspension has been frozen after he tested positive for a metabolite of cocaine. Guerrero might not be at his best fitness, but he is still a dynamic playmaker at his age. He scored five goals in 17 qualifying appeareance to help Los Incas make it to the grand stage. Denmark captain Simon Kjaer was among those to write a letter saying Guerrero should be allowed to play in the World Cup. It’s the fifth World Cup appearance for Peru, but first since 1982 in what is the biggest gap among this year’s tournament field.
Prediction:
This should be a highly competitive game and could come down to one mistake. Denmark might be the more disciplined team here as it has a better World Cup history and might not have players with jitters like Peru. But even so, I think Peru has the type of players with difference-making ability to get the job done here and sour Denmark’s day right from the get-go. Take the underdogs here, with Peru midfielder Yoshi Yotun making an impact all match.
