Danica Patrick Indy 500 Outlook
Danica Patrick returns to the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, a race she has nearly won before. Will Patrick make history and become the first female driver to prevail?
The Indianapolis 500 is a 500-mile race that will be held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race takes place today on Sunday at 11AM ET and will air live on ABC. According to oddsmakers, Danica Patrick is listed with 20/1 odds to win Sunday’s race. Alexander Rossi is the favorite with 8/1 odds while Helio Castroneves has 9/1 odds.
Last call for Patrick?
Danica Patrick has indicated she is stepping away from full-time racing after this race, but you never say never. She is making her first Indy 500 appearance since 2011, as she had an underwhelming run in NASCAR over the last handful of years. She had a lot of success in this race, placing in the top 10 in six of the seven years she competed, including a third-place finish in 2009. This year, Patrick starts from a very comfortable seventh position.
Long Indy layoff
Patrick was a full-time IndyCar driver for years, but hasn’t been in the series since 2011. Her overall performances weren’t outstanding, but she did claim a victory in her career and has done pretty well on the open, fast tracks. Indy has definitely been her best track throughout her Indy career.
Indy 500 Outlook
Patrick isn’t a stretch to win on Sunday. I would feel a lot better about her winning this race than any NASCAR race she competed in. The biggest question is the long layoff from IndyCar and Indy 500 competition. Will she be comfortable with the speeds and quickness of the race? She has a nice starting position, as five winners have come from the seventh position and eight from the third row. If you are really hoping to cash in big, Patrick is probably as good of a 20/1 driver as you are going to find.
