Hunter-Reay Seeks Second Indy 500 Win
Ryan Hunter-Reay hasn’t been terribly great at this event, but he did managed to take home the championship in 2014 after starting 19th. Since then, he has finished 15th or worse the last three years. He has finished outside the top 20 five times out of 10 appearances. This year, Hunter-Reay starts 14th.
Hot-and-Cold in 2018
Ryan Hunter-Reay has been hot-and-cold in this year’s IndyCar series. Out of five races, he has finished in the top 5 three times, but been outside the top 10 two times. His best finish was runner-up at Alabama. He currently sits ninth in the points standings as he seeks his first win since 2015.
Indy 500 Outlook
Sure, Hunter-Reay is a former winner. However, there is little to see in his experience there to make me think he will make it happen again. He isn’t a consistent winner in the series and he has finished outside the top 20 at this event more than he has inside the top 10. Hunter-Reay doesn’t have history on his side either, as only one driver has won from the 14th starting position, and that was 1955.
