California Chrome Triple Crown Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Now that it’s been approved that California Chrome can wear nasal strips to race in the 2014 Belmont Stakes, will the thoroughbred make history in a few weeks?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, California Chrome has 5/6 odds to win the 2014 Triple Crown. He also has 5/6 odds NOT to win the Triple Crown, which hasn’t been achieved since Affirmed accomplished the feat in 1978.
After winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes over the past month, California Chrome only needs to win the Belmont in two weeks to achieve horse racing’s biggest accomplishment. He’s currently a 20/23 favorite to win the Belmont, while Tonalist, Ride On Curlin and Wicked Strong are all 8/1, respectively. Commanding Curve, who finished second in the Kentucky Derby this year, is currently 12/1.
Will the margin of victory in this year’s Belmont be two lengths or more? The odds for “Yes” are 1/1, while the odds for “No” are 5/7. The over/under for the winning time has also been set at 2:30.00, with both the over and the under sitting at 5/6 odds, respectively. That means for every $6.00 that you wager on either the over or the under, you’ll win $5.00 back on your bet.
As previously mentioned, Affirmed was the last contender to win the Triple Crown, which occurred in 1978. Ironically, three horses accomplished the feat during the 1970s, including Secretariat and Seattle Slew. The first horse to win horse racing’s Triple Crown was Sir Barton in 1919.
The 2014 Belmont Stakes will be the 146th running of the Belmont Stakes and the event will be held on June 7, 2014 from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.
