Race History

Before he produced a solid third place finish at the Kentucky Derby on May 1, Paddy O’prado placed second at the G1 Blue Grass on April 10 and won the G3 Palm Beach on March 6.

Opening Odds

Paddy O’prado opened with 3/1 odds to win the 2010 Preakness Stakes according to oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com. His odds are second to only Super Saver, who was made a 2/1 favorite to win on Saturday after winning the Kentucky Derby.

Early Analysis

One of the biggest knocks against Paddy O’prado is that he gets caught up in traffic, which was once again held true at the Kentucky Derby. But once he got free, he nearly won the race before being edged out by Super Saver and Ice Box down the stretch. He drew a post position of 10 for the Preakness Stakes, which will feature a less-crowded field, which only benefits Paddy O’prado. He can rally or stalk the pace, has a stakes win this year and has a top Beyer of 100. His jockey Kent Desormeaux has come under some criticism for the way he rode Paddy O’prado down the stretch at the Kentucky Derby, but that shouldn’t be a factor this Saturday. In fact, Desormeaux has something to prove, which only benefits backers of Paddy O’prado.
