Creator Kentucky Derby Betting Preview
Could Creator be a sleeper on Saturday when he takes on the field at the Kentucky Derby? Read on for a preview of the 3-year-old colt.
The Odds: According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Creator has 14/1 odds to pull off the upset at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Nyquist remains the favorite to win at 14/5, while Mohaymen has the next-best odds at 9/2. Exaggerator and Gun Runner are 6/1, respectively, while Mor Spirit is 7/1.
A Snapshot: Owned by WinStar Farm and trained by Steve Asmussen, Creator has two wins, four second-place finishes, and one third-place showings in eight career starts. He's earned $768,320 in his career, which amounts to $96,040 per start. His pedigree is Tapit - Morena, by Privately Held and his running style is that of a closer. Ricardo Santana Jr. will be Creator's jockey on Saturday.
Why Bet Creator: Because he might be peaking at just the right time in his career. After finishing second in four of his first five starts, he broke through with a 7 1/4 win at a MSW on February 27. In his first graded stakes race, he finished third behind Cupid and Whitmore in the Rebel Stakes on March 19 and then won the Arkansas Derby in his final prep for the Kentucky Derby.
Creator improved his Eqibase Speed Figure from a 96 to a 101 to a 103 in his last three starts and as mentioned in his "Snapshot," he's a natural closer. If he's calm getting into the stables on Saturday, Creator could be a legit sleeper.
