Always Dreaming remains the favorite at 5/2, while Irap is listed behind McCraken at 11/2 to win the Kentucky Derby. Classic Empire, meanwhile, is 6/1, while Gunnevera and Irish War Cry are 7/1, respectively. Practical Joke is 8/1, while Girvin and Gormley are 15/1, respectively.

McCraken won his career debut in October 2016 at Churchill Downs and returned four weeks later to win the Street Sense Stakes by 3 ¾ lengths. Following the Street Sense Stakes, McCraken was put against graded stakes competition and responded well, winning the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes ahead of Wild Shot and Warrior’s Club. In his last two races, McCraken won the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes and then finished third in the Grade 2 Blue Grass Stakes on May 8.
