Lucky Remains Favorite
The unfortunate foot injury of Eskendereya has paved the way for an exciting 136th running of the Kentucky Derby this Saturday. Here’s the latest from BroburySports.com.
You can also enter our famous $1 Million Triple Crown Challenge (available on the site soon) with a guaranteed $10,000 Prize Pool.
Lookin at Lucky is now the +200 favorite for the Kentucky Derby (see full odds below), with Sidneys Candy (+400) and filly Devil May Care (+600) right behind.
Lookin at Lucky is also the favorite to win the Triple Crown at +900. Sidneys Candy (+1500) and Devil May Care (+3000) have big payouts for that as well.
There hasn’t been a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978 and the anticipation and build-up has increased every year. That’s especially true after the recent close calls with Big Brown (2008) and Smarty Jones (2004). They won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness before failing to win the longer and more grueling Belmont Stakes.
Brobury has -800 odds that there will not be a Triple Crown winner this year.
The 2009 Kentucky Derby was one of the most exciting in history. Mine That Bird, a 50-1 long shot, beat the field by 6 ¾-lengths. It was the biggest margin of victory since 1946. Plus, the winning payout of $103.20 was the second highest in Derby history
The payouts for the three previous years were small with Big Brown ($6.80), Street Sense ($11.80) and Barbaro ($14.20).
Note we’re also offering all the Graded Race Events for Friday and Saturday at Churchill Downs. These include Friday’s Kentucky Oaks, a $500,000 purse for three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. Blind Luck is the heavy -120 ‘chalk.’
