Sunday's Olympics Predictions
The Winter Olympics enter their final week of action and some big events are on the horizon. Here’s our Winter Olympics Predictions for Sunday.
Women’s Ice Hockey
The field is down to its final four and, according to oddsmakers at YouWager, the United States are the favorite to win gold with -135 odds while Canada is listed at +105. Finland has odds of +2000 while Russia is at +10000. The Canadians own a 2-1 win over the Americans during preliminary play, though the United States doubled Canada on shots. The United States has struggled to beat Canada on the global stage. While the prelim loss provided some optimism, the American still lost. I feel this is still Canada’s gold until someone takes it from them. WOMEN’S HOCKEY PREDICTION: CANADA +105
Men’s 500m Speed Skating
Oddsmakers see Ronald Mulder as the favorite in this one with +300 odds while Kai Verbij has +450 odds and Jan Smeekens is listed at +700. Mulder won bronze at the 2014 Olympics in this event and holds the current Dutch record. His best time in the race is 34.08, which he set about a year ago. Vebij has yet to medal on the world stage in the 500, but his top time is 34.25. Smeekens was the 2017 world champ in the 500 and won silver at the 2014 games. His top time is 34.32, which he set in 2013. These three Dutch skaters should lead the pack in this race, but I think Mulder grabs the gold here. He has the fastest time of the three and is ready to prove he’s finally the best in the world. MEN’S 500M PREDICTION: RONALD MULDER +300
Women’s Curling: Canada vs. Japan
The Canadians are surprisingly struggling with a 2-3 record so far, yet they are a -325 favorite against Japan, who is 4-1. The Japanese team is listed with +230 odds tonight. Canada has been putting itself behind early in most of their matches these Olympics, needing multiple points late to win or force an extra end. That is not a successful way to win consistently in curling. While Canada has traditionally been the best in curling, I think Japan is worth playing tonight as such a big underdog against a struggling team. CURLING PREDICTION: JAPAN +230
