PHILADELPHIA (AP) Philadelphia continued its perfect start to the new NFL season by beating Pittsburgh 34-3 on Sunday, led by rookie quarterback Carson Wentz, who threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns, and a fierce defense.
The Eagles are one of five teams to have won all their opening three games of the season, including defending champion Denver, which rallied for a victory at Cincinnati.
In key games for the NFC North, Green Bay held on to edge Detroit while Chicago lost at Dallas, with the Cowboys taking an overdue home victory.
Wentz connected with Darren Sproles on a 73-yard, catch-and-run TD and tossed a 12-yard TD pass to Jordan Matthews as the Eagles backed up their wins over Cleveland and Chicago and showed they could compete with the big boys by downing a Steelers team that won well in its first two games and was considered a Super Bowl contender.
Pittsburgh was 19-2 against rookie quarterbacks since 2004 but Wentz is no ordinary rookie, and the youngster who was the slated No.3 starter during preseason was now leading a revived Philadelphia offense.
Denver quarterback Trevor Siemian threw a career-high four touchdown passes in his first road start and standing up to fourth-quarter pressure, rallying the Broncos over Cincinnati 29-17.
Siemian has exceeded expectation and met all scrutiny as the replacement for retired great Peyton Manning. He completed 11 of 12 passes while rallying the Broncos to a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns.
Siemian went 23 of 35 for 312 yards and a passer rating of 132.1. He had a 41-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders to get it started, and stood in under a heavy rush and connected with Demaryius Thomas on a 55-yard score with 4:23 left to clinch it.
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw for 205 yards and four touchdowns as the Packers broke cured their offensive problems and downed Detroit 34-27.
Rodgers was 15 of 24, leading the Packers to touchdowns on their first three series.
Jordy Nelson had 101 yards on six catches, returning to the form that made him one of the NFL’s best receivers before missing the 2015 season with a knee injury.
Dallas ended a run of eight straight home losses by defeating Chicago 31-17.
Dak Prescott led scoring drives on all four Dallas possessions in the first half before throwing his first career touchdown pass.
With his second straight win, Prescott doubled the number of victories the Cowboys had in 14 games without injured quarterback Tony Romo over three seasons. Prescott was 19 of 24 for 248 yards in Dallas’ first home win since last year’s opener.
Prescott’s first TD pass was a 17-yarder to Dez Bryant for a 31-10 lead in the fourth quarter, and he’s up to 99 throws without an interception to start his career.
Minnesota snapped Carolina’s 14-game home winning streak, beating the Panthers 22-10.
Sam Bradford threw a touchdown pass to Kyle Rudolph and Marcus Sherels returned a punt for a score as the Vikings came from 10-0 down to dominate the rest of the game, including eight sacks on Carolina quarterback Cam Newton.
Bradford improved to 2-0 as the Vikings starter, completing 18 of 28 passes for 171 yards. Rudolph had seven catches for 70 yards.
Seattle’s Russell Wilson threw for 243 yards and a touchdown before suffering a left knee injury as the Seahawks cruised past San Francisco 37-18.
Wilson was injured with about 10 minutes to go in the third quarter getting pulled down awkwardly on a sack.
He stayed down on the field for a few moments before walking off. Wilson missed the first play of his career due to injury, but returned to throw one more pass.
Indianapolis’ T.Y. Hilton broke a tackle on a 63-yard TD pass with 1:17 to play, leading the Colts over San Diego 26-22.
Indianapolis recovered two fumbles in the final 62 seconds to preserve the win.
Colts quarterback Andrew Luck finished 24 of 37 for 331 yards with one TD and one interception to earn his 15th come-from-behind win – not bad considering he was troubled by an injured throwing shoulder.
Washington’s Dustin Hopkins kicked a 37-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter for his fifth of the game, giving the Redskins their first win of the season as they beat the error-prone New York Giants 29-27.
Los Angeles’ Case Keenum threw for the Rams’ first touchdown since relocating back to L.A., helping them beat Tampa Bay 37-32.
Kansas City returned two turnovers for touchdowns, intercepted three passes in the end zone and forced eight turnovers total in a 24-3 victory over the New York Jets.
Baltimore’s Justin Tucker kicked a 54-yard field goal with 1:02 remaining to lift the Ravens to a 19-17 win against Jacksonville.
Buffalo’s LeSean McCoy scored twice and safety Aaron Williams returned a botched field-goal snap 53 yards for a touchdown in leading the Bills over Arizona 33-18.
Oakland’s Derek Carr threw for 249 yards and a touchdown and the Raiders defense finally came up with some big plays in a 17-10 win against Tennessee.
Miami’s Jay Ajayi scored on an 11-yard run with 8:26 left in overtime to give the Dolphins victory over Cleveland 30-24.
