(STATS) – The NCAA placed Charleston Southern on two years’ probation and levied other penalties because the university improperly certified 55 student-athletes in 12 sports, including football, over a six-year period.
The findings at the Big South Conference member come from the 2011-12 through 2016-17 academic years.
The NCAA also said Charleston Southern did not monitor policies designed to ensure the correct administration of book scholarships.
The probation began Tuesday and will run through Oct. 15, 2020. In addition, the football program must reduce six scholarships during the 2019 and ’20 seasons and the school will vacate records for games in which student-athletes competed while ineligible and pay a $5,000 fine plus 0.5 percent of the annual athletic department budget.
