DETROIT (AP) -The Red Wings say they have agreed to a three-year contract extension with coach Mike Babcock, who helped bring the Stanley Cup back to Detroit.
Babcock led Detroit to a title in his third season. During his coaching tenure, the Red Wings twice have had the most points in the regular season.
Babcock and the team had been expected to reach an agreement shortly after the Red Wings hoisted the Stanely Cup with a win last week at Pittsburgh, the fourth time in 11 seasons Detroit has won the title.
