NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -San Jose forward Steve Bernier had to be helped off the ice after being hit into the boards with his head snapping back before he fell face-first Friday night in Game 2 against the Nashville Predators.
Bernier was at the sideboards, working for control of the puck when he was first hit by Nashville defenseman Dan Hamhuis. Then Nashville rookie Alexander Radulov came up and hit Bernier in the back, snapping the forward’s head back and forth at 4:44 of the second period.
Bernier fell to the ice, where he lay for a few minutes.
Trainers tended to Bernier, then waved for a gurney to be brought onto the ice. But the Sharks forward was able to skate off with Joe Thornton and Marcel Goc on either side helping him.
Radulov, who had a goal and an assist in the first period, was given a five-minute major for checking in the back. He also was given a game misconduct.
It was the second San Jose player knocked from the game with an injury in this short series. Forward Jonathan Cheechoo sprained his right knee in a knee-on-knee collision with Scott Hartnell in the second period of Game 1, but he played Friday night. Hartnell was ejected from that game.
