Kings reach out to Gaborik
LOS ANGELES, CA (The Spread) – Marian Gaborik is one of the Kings’ few free agents but the team has taken the first steps in attempting to re-sign the winger.
ESPN.com is reporting that the Kings have reached out to Gaborik about a possible contract extension. The team would love to have him back after he helped lift the Kings’ offense in the postseason and on their way to winning the Stanley Cup. The problem is that GM Dean Lombardi is cap strapped, so signing Gaborik might prove difficult this summer.
Gaborik started off slow after the Kings acquired him from the Blue Jackets at the trade deadline but he lead the league with 14 playoff goals, including the game-tying goal in the third period of Game 5 to send the contest into overtime. That’s one of the reasons why management likely views his contract situation as a priority.
There has been some speculation that Los Angeles could use a compliance buyout on Mike Richards, which could free up enough money to sign Gaborik. But right now those are just rumors.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Blackhawks are the current favorites to win the 2015 Stanley Cup at 7/1 odds, while the Bruins are 8/1 and the defending champs are 9/1. The Penguins, meanwhile, are 10/1, while the Blues are 12/1 and both the Ducks and Sharks are 14/1, respectively.
