Eastern Conference Odds

The 2009 NHL postseason is about to start soon and competition is supposed to be tough in the Eastern Conference.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the No. 1-seeded Boston Bruins 3/2 favorites to win the East.

The Bruins turned in quite a regular season, finishing with a 53-19-10 record and 116 points. They finished second in the NHL in points behind only the San Jose Sharks, who amassed 117 points on their way to clinching the top seed in the Western Conference. Boston will take on the No. 8-seeded Montreal Canadiens (20/1), who it dominated in the regular season by winning five of the six meetings.

The team with the next best odds in the East is the No. 3-seeded New Jersey Devils at 7/2. The Devils take on the No. 6-seeded Carolina Hurricanes (who are 10/1 long shots to win the East) in the first round. Even though New Jersey is the higher ranked seed and have the better odds, Carolina actually owned the Devils in the regular season, winning three of the four meetings.

The Washington Capitals are the No. 2 seed in the East and have been given 9/2 odds to win the conference. They’ll square off against the New York Rangers (who are 16/1 long shots) in the first round, a team in which they beat three out of four times in the regular season.
