Leafs fall in OT to Red Wings
Toronto lost by a 5-4 score in overtime Thursday night at home versus Detroit, coming after the Maple Leafs scored three third-period goals to overcome a 4-1 deficit. Kasperi Kapanen gave Toronto (20-8-1) a 1-0 advantage in the first period before the Red Wings scored the next four goals. The Maple Leafs tied it in the third on goals by John Tavares, Zach Hyman and Andreas Johnsson. For Tavares, it was his 18th goal of the season. Jake Gardiner dished out two assists in the defeat. Garret Sparks recorded 27 saves on 32 shots in the losing effort.
Bruins drop third in a row
The Bruins have struggled since an injury to forward Patrice Bergeron and that continued Thursday night with a 3-2 loss at Tampa Bay. Boston (14-10-4) was even at 1-1 through two periods before allowing two goals in the third to go down 3-1. David Krejci made it interesting with 1:45 remaining with his third goal of the season, but the Bruins were unable to find the equalizer. David Pastrnak scored his 20th goal of the season 2:04 into the contest before Tampa Bay tied it up later in the period. Tuukka Rask made 27 saves on 30 shots in the defeat.
NHL Betting Trends
Toronto
The over is 5-0 in the last five Maple Leafs games overall. The road team is 0-4 in the last four meetings.
Boston
The Bruins are 5-1 in their last six home meetings versus Toronto. Boston is 0-4 in its last four games versus the Atlantic Division.
Prediction:
Boston is having a lot of problems lately with injuries to key veterans like Bergeron and defenseman Zdeno Chara. It won’t get any easier here against a talented Toronto squad looking to turn things positive again after an uneven performance versus Detroit. Although the Bruins are at home, I can’t endorse them against a team that is looking more and more like a Stanley Cup contender each week.
