Lightning falter in third period
Tampa Bay allowed four unanswered third-period goals Saturday night as its four-game winning streak ended with a 6-4 home loss to Ottawa. Mathieu Joseph led the way with two goals and an assist. Braydon Coburn contributed a goal and an assist. Victor Hedman scored the other goal. Alex Killorn dished out two assists. Andrei Vasilevskiy surrendered six goals on 34 shots to take the loss. The Lightning dropped to 12-4-1 on the season.
Sabres win shootout versus Canucks
Buffalo won its second contest out of its last three with a 4-3 home shootout victory over Vancouver to move to 9-6-2 on the season. The Sabres trailed 3-1 in the third period until Jeff Skinner scored his 12th goal with 2:27 remaining, followed by the tying goal from Sam Reinhart at the 1:47 mark. Jack Eichel and Casey Mittelstadt both found the back of the net in the shootout, which Buffalo won 2-1. Nathan Beaulieu also scored a goal in the victory, while Rasmus Dahlin and Rasmus Ristolainen each recorded two assists. Carter Hutton made 36 saves on 39 shots to get the win.
NHL Betting Trends
The Lightning are 6-0 in their last six Tuesday games. Tampa Bay is 6-1 in its last seven meetings in Buffalo.
The over is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings versus the Atlantic Division. Buffalo is 0-4 in its last four games playing on two days of rest.
Buffalo has played good hockey lately, but is facing a Tampa Bay team salty after Saturday's meltdown. Expect to see Vasilevskiy back in strong form as he is one of the NHL's best goaltenders despite the last performance. Tampa Bay has found success in recent years at Buffalo and I don't expect anything different here.
