Golden Knights fall in OT

Las Vegas lost 2-1 in overtime Thursday night at Toronto to drop to 9-5-3 on the season. Max Pacioretty broke a scoreless tie with 15:52 left in the third period on an unassisted goal for the Golden Knights. The Maple Leafs evened the score four minutes later and proceeded to score the game-winner 2:33 into the extra session. Malcolm Subban registered 35 saves on 37 shots in the defeat.

Capitals prevail in extra time

Washington secured a 5-4 overtime victory Thursday night at Florida to improve to 12-2-3 on the season. Tom Wilson scored the game-winner for the Capitals 17 seconds into the extra session with assists going to John Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov. Carlson gave Washington a 1-0 advantage 25 seconds into the first period with assists going to Michal Kempny and Alex Ovechkin. The Panthers scored the game's next three goals and took a 3-1 lead 27 seconds into the second period. Ovechkin cut it to 3-2 on the power play with 13:47 remaining in the second with assists from Kuznetsov and Carlson. Ovechkin scored again at the 7:46 mark of the second on assists from Dmitry Orlov and Nicklas Backstrom. Florida took a 4-3 lead later in the second, but Wilson scored 44 seconds into the third period off a Kuznetsov assist to even it up again at 4-4. Braden Holtby made 32 saves on 36 shots in the winning effort.

NHL Betting Trends

Las Vegas

The Golden Knights are 22-10 in their last 32 games versus the Metropolitan Division. Las Vegas is 2-6 in its last eight games overall.

Washington

The Capitals are 5-1 in their last six games as a favorite. Washington is 4-1 in its last five games versus the Western Conference.

Prediction:

Washington is off to a fantastic first month-plus of the season, while Las Vegas is still searching for consistency. The Golden Knights have the talent and grittiness to slow down the Caps, however. Las Vegas has a number of players who have experienced plenty of winning and were part of the Stanley Cup runner-up to this Washington squad two seasons ago. I imagine they take every ensuing game against the Capitals pretty seriously. This is a good opportunity to take a shot on a plus money team
