Blues vs. Flames NHL Free Pick
(The Spread) – Will the Flames will consecutive games for the first time in 2011 when they host the Blues tonight at 9:00PM ET?
ST. LOUIS: Brian Elliott has keyed the Blues’ success since replacing Jaroslav Halak between the pipes following a 5-0 road loss to the Kings on October 18. Elliott is 3-0-0 with one shutout and a 1.30 GAA in his last three starts. St. Louis has won three in a row, which includes a 3-0 upset of the Vancouver Canucks on October 26. Jason Arnott leads the team in points with eight while Alexander Steen has taken a team-high 30 shots.
CALGARY: As mentioned in the intro, the Flames have yet to win consecutive games in 2011. They lost 3-2 to the Maple Leafs following a 4-1 victory over the Canadiens on October 13, and lost 3-2 in overtime to the Rangers on October 20 after a 2-1 win over Edmonton two nights prior. After beating the Avalanche 4-2 on Wednesday, Calgary will attempt to win its first back-to-back games tonight against St. Louis.
ODDS: Oddsmakers have installed the Flames as –109 money line favorites over the Blues, who are +101 on the ML. The over/under total for this game is currently sitting at 5.5 goals.
FREE PICK: I’m going right back to the well with the Blues after predicting their upset over the Canucks on Wednesday. At some point the Flames will win consecutive games but Elliott is as hot as they come between the pipes right now and you might as well ride the hot hand. According to latest NHL trends, the Flames are 0-4 in their last four games following a win and 2-11 in their last 13 versus a team with a winning record. The Blues are 9-3 in their last 12 Friday games and 5-2 in their last seven versus the Northwest.
FRIDAY NHL FREE PICK: ST. LOUIS BLUES +101
