Rangers downed at Devils
New York fell by a score of 5-2 Thursday night at New Jersey to drop to 2-2-0 on the season. The Rangers struck first 6:02 into the first period via a Tony DeAngelo goal off assists by Pavel Buchnevich and Brady Skjei. The Devils scored the game’s next three goals and led 3-1 through two periods, but New York drew within a goal 2:22 into the third period on a Jesper Fast goal off assists from Ryan Strome and Brendan Smith. Alexandar Georgiev suffered the loss as he gave up four goals on 37 attempts.
Capitals hold on against Leafs
Washington notched a 4-3 home win Wednesday night over Toronto to improve to 4-2-2 on the season. The Capitals fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but got one goal back with 1:01 remaining in the first on a Jakub Vrana tally on assists by John Carlson and Garnet Hathaway. Evgeny Kuznetsov made it a 2-2 game with 14:53 left in the second period with assists going to Carlson and Carl Hagelin. Nicklas Backstrom gave Washington a 3-2 advantage only 11 seconds later via assists from T.J. Oshie and Nick Jensen. Carlson pushed it to 4-2 a minute-plus later on a power play goal assisted by Alex Ovechkin and Backstrom. The Maple Leafs drew within a goal in the third period, but were unable to find the equalizer. Ilya Samsonov secured 29 saves on 32 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
New York
The Rangers is 30-64 in their last 94 games as an underdog. New York is 14-38 in its last 52 Friday games.
Washington
The Capitals are 36-15 in their last 51 Friday games. Wqshington is 69-29 in its last 98 games as a home favorite between -151 and -200.
Prediction:
The Capitals had last night off and remained at home, while New York looked rusty last night and are going to be a bit fatigued. The Rangers will have No. 1 goalie Henrik Lundquist back in goal for this one, but that’s about all they have going for them. Washington looked good a couple nights ago and I like the hosts again in this spot.
