Maple Leafs vs. Capitals Pick
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Capitals are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -135 to win. The Maple Leafs are getting a money line of +115 to prevail, while the over/under total for the contest is listed at 6 goals. Washington has won three straight and seven of its last 10 against Toronto. Tonight’s contest takes place from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Toronto is 4-1 on the season following a 4-3 OT win over the Canadiens in Montreal a few nights again. Toronto has won both road games this year. The Leafs are averaging 5.20 goals per game while giving up 3.80 goals per contest. Auston Matthews is leading the team with five goals and three assists while James van Riemsdyk has four goals and two assists. Frederik Andersen hasn’t been great this year despite the 4-1 record. He has a 3.76 GAA with a .880 save percentage.
Washington is coming off an 8-2 loss to the Flyers in Philly on Oct. 14. The Capitals are now 3-3 on the season and 1-1 at home. Washington is posting and allowing 3.67 goals per game. They are putting up only 25 shots per game while allowing 34.5. Alex Ovechkin has nine goals to lead the team while Nicklas Backstrom has three goals and eight assists. Braden Holtby has just a 2.47 GAA and a .923 save percentage in the four games he has started.
Toronto hasn’t done well in this series. Washington is 11-3 in its last 14 meetings with Toronto. The Leafs are also just 7-19 in their last 26 trips to Washington. The Capitals are also 11-1 in their last 12 games after allowing five goals or more in their previous game. The public is siding with the Capitals tonight. I am siding with Washington as well. Toronto has been winning with tremendous scoring thus far, but the Leafs are going to eventually cool off. They don’t have the goaltending to win when they do cool off.
