Pittsburgh (0-1-1) suffered an embarrassing 10- 1 at the Blackhawks in its opener. with the game being the second leg of a back-to-back to begin the season. Phil Kessel had the lone Penguis goal with assists from Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Antti Niemi allowed four goals on the first 13 shots and was promplty pulled from the game.
Pittsburgh didn’t give the Predators a chance to get started in Game 5, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Justin Schultz, Bryan Rust and Evgeni Malkin each scored in the opening period. Pittsburgh added another three goals in the second period from Conor Sheary, Phil Kessel and Ron Hainsey. Pekka Rinne was pulled once again in Pittsburgh after allowing three goals on nine shots. Juuse Saros didn’t do much better, allowing three goals on 15 shots. Matt Murray stopped all 24 shots he faced to earn the shutout for Pittsburgh.
The Penguins could not play a lick of defense a couple nights ago and were humiliated at Chicago. Expect their offense will be an improved product in game two of the season, while the defense might be a little shaky and in dissaray after allowing 10 goals. The Predators are strong defensively, but with Pittsburgh's firepower iit is basically capable of putting up a plie of goals no matter the opponent.
