Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Red Wings –133 money line favorites over the visiting Sharks, who are +123 on the ML. The over/under total for tonight’s game (which starts at 8:00PM ET) is currently sitting at 5.5 goals.
In Game 5 on Sunday night, the Red Wings erased 2-0 and 3-1 deficits to win, 4-3. Jimmy Howard saved 39 of the 42 shot attempts he saw on the night, while Tomas Holmstrom’s goal at 13:52 into the third period proved to be the game-winner.
For the Sharks, Antti Niemi saved just 18 of 22 shot attempts and has now struggled in back-to-back games since leading San Jose to three-straight wins at the start of the series. The Sharks got goals from Joe Pavelski, Devin Setoguchi and Logan Couture, but obviously it wasn’t enough as Detroit has now clawed back into the series.
NHL Playoff Free Pick: A price of –133 on the money line is a tad steep, but I don’t see the Red Wings losing after the effort they’ve given the past two games. They could have easily folded in Game 5 and headed into the offseason in a whimper, but they fought back and are now one game away from tying this series. They have all the momentum, their offense is finally alive and they’ve stopped making the mistakes that hounded them in the first three games. According to latest NHL trends, the Wings are 5-1 in their last six games as a favorite and 5-1 in their last six games following a win. Meanwhile, the Sharks are just 1-4 in their last five playoff games as an underdog and 1-4 in their last five postseason games as an underdog of +110 to +150. San Jose has to be feeling the pressure of losing its 3-0 lead – take Detroit.
