Avs prevail in OT
Gabriel Landeskog scored 2:32 into overtime Monday night as host Colorado defeated San Jose by a final of 4-3 in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals. Cale Makar assisted on the winning goal. Following a scoreless first period, Tyson Jost gave the Avalanche a 1-0 advantage at the 15:55 mark of the second period on a goal assisted by J.T. Compher and Ian Cole. The Sharks tied it up 10-plus minutes later, but Colorado again took a 2-1 lead with 1:16 to go in the second as Compher found the back of the net off assists by Carl Soderberg and Alexander Kerfoot. San Jose proceeded to even it up again just over a minute later. Compher scored his second goal of the contest four minutes into the third period with assists going to Derick Brassard and Colin Wilson. The Sharks tied it at 3-3 with 2:28 to go in regulation, while Landeskog proved to be the hero early in the overtime session. Philipp Grubauer registered 19 saves on 22 shots in the winning effort.
Sharks unable to close series
San Jose fell 4-3 in overtime at Colorado Monday night as the visitors forced Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals. The Avalanche led 1-0 in the second period until Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored with 5:24 left in the period off assists from Timo Meier and Gustav Nyquist. After Colorado took the lead again, the Sharks tied it at 2-2 with 10 seconds to play in the period via a Brent Burns slap shot goal with assists courtesy of Erik Karlsson and Meier. The Avs grabbed the lead at the 16-minute mark of the third period, while San Jose evened it at 3-3 with 2:28 left on a Vlasic goal assisted by Logan Couture and Nyquist. Colorado proceeded to score the winner 2:28 into OT. Martin Jones suffered the loss as he gave up four goals on 26 shots.
NHL Public Betting Trends
Colorado
The Avalanche are 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games. Colorado is 37-78 in its last 115 road games.
San Jose
The Sharks are 4-1 in their last five home games. San Jose is 39-16 in the last 55 home meetings versus the Avs.
Prediction:
San Jose is the better team and usually fantastic at home. While the Avs got one road win this series, they have traditionally struggled at San Jose. The SAP Center is going to be amped up for this one and I don’t expect Burns, Karlsson and company to allow the home team to leave without a victory to move on to the Western Conference Finals.
