Pastrnak sends Bruins to win
Boston used a late goal by David Pastrnak to defeat visiting Columbus 4-3 in Game 5 Saturday in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. After a scoreless first period, David Krejci scored 1:39 into the second period to give Boston a 1-0 advantage with assists going to Jake DeBrusk and David Backes. It remained that way until Brad Marchand made it 2-0 with 15:09 to go in the third period on a goal assisted by Connor Clifton and Patrice Bergeron. After the Blue Jackets made it 2-1 midway through the third, Pastrnak pushed it back to 3-1 with 8:44 remaining on a tally assisted by Marchand. Columbus proceeded to score a pair of goals over the next two-plus minutes to tie it at 3-3. Pastrnak scored his second goal of the period with 1:28 to play to break the tie with assists courtesy of Marchand and Brandon Carlo. Tuukka Rask accounted for 33 saves on 36 shots in the winning effort.
Blue Jackets’ rally falls short
Columbus came back from two goals down in the third period Saturday before allowing the go-ahead goal late in a 4-3 loss at Boston in Game 6. The Blue Jackets trailed 2-0 in the third period before Seth Jones made it a one-goal game with 9:27 remaining on a goal off assists by Zach Werenski and Cam Atkinson. The Bruins pushed it to 3-1 at the 8:44 mark, but Ryan Dzingel trimmed it to 3-2 53 seconds later with assists going to Matt Duchene and David Savard. With 6:02 left, Dean Kukan tied it at 3-3 on a goal assisted by Artemi Panarin and Josh Anderson. Boston then scored what turned out to be the game-winner with 1:28 remaining. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 32 of 36 shots between the pipes in the defeat.
NHL Betting Trends
Boston
The Bruins are 5-2 in their last seven road games. Boston is 8-17 in its last 25 Monday games.
Columbus
The Blue Jackets are 13-4 in their last 17 games overall. Columbus is 4-1 in its last five home games versus the Bruins.
Prediction:
Boston is a team set up to win a Stanley Cup and while a road tilt at a confident Blue Jackets squad will provide another tough test, the Bruins smell blood in the water. I expect veteran-laden Boston to close it out here with another strong performance by Rask guiding the way.
