Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Sharks a -130 favorite in the contest and the Red Wings are a +110 underdog. The over-under rests at 5.5.
It was a disappointing end to Game 1 for the Detroit Red Wings and their fans, while San Jose celebrated the 2-1 overtime victory in front of its home fans after Benn Ferriero scored the game-winning goal in overtime. Detroit took the loss despite a major effort from goalie Jimmy Howard, who stopped 44 of the 46 shots sent his way.
According to the latest NHL trends, San Jose is 11-7 against the spread versus Detroit over the last three seasons. Eleven of 18 games in this series have gone over the total during the last three seasons.
NHL Playoff Free Pick: While Detroit hung on to its 1-0 lead through much of Game 1 after a first period goal by Nicklas Lidstrom, the Sharks eventually found the back of the net in the third period before scoring the game-winner not too long into overtime. San Jose outplayed Detroit for most of the way and the Red Wings were lucky to get an unbelievable outing out of Howard. With Detroit typically struggling in the Shark Tank, I like San Jose to take a commanding lead in the series here. I think Detroit will go back home to Joe Louis Arena and make some noise, but here is a good spot for the Sharks in my opinion. I’m picking San Jose -130.
