Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Flyers -130 favorites while the Bruins are +120 underdogs in the matchup. The over-under is set at 5.5.
It took Boston a full seven games to dispose of a feisty Montreal Canadiens squad, while Philadelphia took care of the Buffalo Sabres in seven games as well. The Bruins won their Game 7 by a count of 4-3 in overtime on a game-winning goal by Nathan Horton. The Flyers prevailed 5-2 in their Game 7 with Claude Giroux notching two assists.
NHL Playoff Free Pick: Both teams had their hot and cold spells in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Both are probably lucky to still be around. That said, road teams have had some success in the NHL Playoffs so far and I like that to continue here. Boston will want to make a statement and it has the better goaltender here in Tim Thomas. Philadelphia’s Brian Boucher is prone to allowing the easy goal and when that happens it can be easy to look over the shoulder with a revolving door at goaltender for the Flyers. According to the latest NHL trends, Boston is 10-9-0 straight up against Philadelphia over the last three seasons. Nine of 17 games in this series have gone over the total during the last three seasons. Oddsmakers are giving the Bruins some deserved respect with a short line and I believe Boston will prove that respect is warranted. I am picking Boston +120 here.
SATURDAY NHL FREE PICK: BOSTON BRUINS +110
