According to oddsmakers at YouWager, the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning are co-favorites in the East, as each has +275 odds. Other short odds to win are the Pittsburgh Penguins (+375) and the Washington Capitals (+450).
Tampa Bay is the top seed in the Eastern Conference after going 54-23-5 during the season for 113 points. The Lightning scored 296 goals while allowing 236. The 296 goals were the most of any team in the East. Tampa Bay starts the playoffs against New Jersey as it looks to win its third conference title. The last came in 2015.
Boston finished second in the East with 112 points after going 50-20-12. The Bruins scored 270 goals this season while allowing 214. The 214 goals were the fewest allowed in the conference. Boston will open the playoffs against Toronto as the Bruins look to claim their fifth conference title in franchise history. The last one came in 2013.
Pittsburgh finished second in the Metropolitan Division with 100 points thanks to a 47-29-6 record. The Pens scored 272 goals, but allowed 250. They had the third most goals scored in the East. Pittsburgh opens its playoffs against Philadelphia. The Penguins are seeking their seventh conference title. They are the two-time defending champs in the East and two-time defending Stanley Cup champs.
The Capitals won the Metropolitan Division after going 49-26-7 overall with 105 points. Washington scored 259 goals this season and allowed 239. The Caps open the playoffs against Columbus and are looking to win just their second conference title. The first came in 1998.
