Monday’s NHL Opening Odds
(The Spread) -Only three games are on tap Monday night in the NHL, but it is highlighted with a nationally televised matchup between the San Jose Sharks and the host Chicago Blackhawks.
Chicago comes in with a 37-24-8 overall record and are 21-14-0 in its home games. The defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks are seventh in the Western Conference with 82 points. San Jose is 39-22-8 overall and 21-11-3 on the road, good for third in the conference with 86 points. Action begins at 8:00PM EST on Versus.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Chicago a -135 favorite in the contest, while the over-under has been set at 5.5. According to the latest trends, San Jose is 32-35-2 on over-unders this season and the Blackhawks are 33-35-0 with over-unders. The Sharks are averaging 2.8 goals per game and giving up 2.6 per. Chicago has scored 3.3 goals per contest and given up 2.8.
San Jose is on a nice run as of late as it has gone 7-1-2 in its last 10 games, but its last two have ended in disappointment with home shootout losses to Vancouver and the New York Rangers. Chicago is also 7-1-2 in its previous 10, but also has been shaky recently with a loss in regulation at Florida and defeats in overtime at Tampa Bay and Washington.
Jonathan Toews leads the Blackhawks with 29 goals and 40 assists, while Dany Heatley and Joe Thornton paces the Sharks with 56 points apiece.
In other NHL action, the Toronto Maple Leafs will host the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:00PM EST. Toronto is a -115 favorite and the over-under is 5.5. Vancouver is home to face Minnesota at 10:00PM EST. The Canucks are -210 favorites, while the over-under is listed at 5.5.
